Pot Wars: Battlefield California

Over the past couple of years, the medical marijuana industry in Los Angeles has exploded. Estimates vary, but there may be as many as 800 dispensaries currently open for business in the city of angels. An ordinance recently passed by the LA city council, however, is about to change all that. The new ordinance will force hundreds of dispensaries to close and all but a few to relocate. The goal was to bring clarity to the medical marijuana industry, but the only thing that’s clear is that the transition process will be difficult. Especially now that the DEA has begun raiding dispensaries again, despite the promises made by the Obama administration. While federal, state and local governments struggle to make sense of medical marijuana laws, an increasing number of Californians support a completely different approach: marijuana legalization. Nothing more than a pipe dream? Maybe. But consider this: 56 percent of Californians currently support pot legalization, the same proportion of Californians who voted for the Compassionate Use Act, which legalized medical marijuana, back in 1996. Produced by Paul Feine. Shot and edited by Alex Manning. Graphics by Hawk Jensen. Hosted by Nick Gillespie. Approximately 9 minutes. Go to reason.tv for iPd, HD, and audio versions of all videos.

very informative, all views were expressed. Thank you very much. And to Carmen Trutanich, talking about Raid and salads, I know many people who grow Marijuana and for the majority, don’t even use non-organic nutrients! If a plant was sprayed with Raid it would be unsellable, if it lived! Fear-mongering at it’s lamest. I wouldn’t doubt it if he was up for re-election this year.

@MisoJapanese What deaths are you referring to? There are no facts to back this statement up anywhere on the net. Wheres your proof? The only recorded deaths from marijuana that i can find are from people being killed from law enforcement agencies or being deprived it when needed medically.

hrmmm. Serious question – where do you draw the line? Is it okay for people to smoke crack? Do Cocaine? Meth? Heroine? Ex? Pain Pills?
I say let people do whatever but 2 rules:
    1) You do it around/try selling it to a kid – Ultra-severe penalties.
    2) You commit a crime while under the influence – double or triple the normal sentence *Mandatory*.
That way people have all their rights respected gotta accept the resposibility of having those rights.

@s117godd who says you have a right to draw a line. Yes all drugs should be legal… where it stops is when you directly harm someones property, or put them in negligent danger [DUI, Child endangerment/abandonment] Every law applied to alcohol should be applied to all drugs and that’s where it should end. Individual cities and states should have the right to restrict dispensary services, that’s it. The cartel related violence in Mexico will end IMMEDIATELY! See Milton Friedman on this point

@jjmdirector No, no, agreed – that is my point exactly – who the fuck decides where you draw the line? Nobody – any specific rule (weed is bad but alcohol is okay) is bogus and un-supportable. How you said it is best – States and Cites don’t realize that THEY have the power to regulate this stuff (10th Amendment much – everyone conveniently forgets that one). Same rules for any substance.

Look up U.S. Patent# 6630507 This was awarded to US Dept. of Health in 2003. One of the Cannabinoids found even in low grade hemp is called CBD or cannabidiol. This patent clearly states this CBD can (PREVENT) or treat a wide variety of human conditions. This compound found in Cannabis/Hemp does not get a person high but still has vast medical benefit if made into medicine. This should negate any Government ban against real medicine. VOTE!
